24 day New Zealand Adventure Tour

From the vibrancy of Auckland’s inner city to the unique geothermal cultural centre of New Zealand via the beauty of the east coast, this first week sets the scene for your epic 24 day backpacker tour. A mini city break, volcanic islands, thermal springs and hot water beaches, bubbling mud pools and a traditional Maori village visit. Your first week is going to be amazing!

After connecting with your guide and new travel buddies we treat you to metropolitan New Zealand with some drinks and an evening harbour cruise.

We immediately deviate from the normal tourist trail by heading over to Rangitoto Island by boat. Auckland’s newest (and currently dormant) volcanic island sits sentinel in the Hauraki gulf and has protected the city shores through time. It’s a super walk to the top and the views are simply spectacular. From here, your journey continues south east to Hahei on the Coromandel Peninsula, home to natural hot springs and the famous Cathedral Cove. Further south is the cultural geothermic city of Rotorua, with it’s abundance of bubbling mud pools and warm lakes and then a once in a lifetime experience at Lake Aniwhenua, where we experience a complete cultural immersion as we are hosted by a local Maori family on the lakes shore.

In week 2 of this amazing backpacker adventure tour, we paddle a canoe down the incredible Whanganui River, hike on one the worlds and most scenic 1-day hikes and discovering NZ’s vibrant capital, Wellington before venturing over the Cook Straight and onto the South Island.

Adventures include sea-kayaking, jet-boating, a spectacularly beautiful ferry crossing and sightseeing through the Abel Tasman National Park, craft-beer tasting and hiking in the tip of the South Island.

You will learn about the importance of conservation work to New Zealand’s ‘100% Pure NZ’ image, and the importance of protecting our native birds. Maori mythology is going to play an important part of this weeks experiences as your guide explains how Tongariro got ‘his’ name and the many stories which intertwine with neighbouring Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe. If you have more questions, then Te Papa, our national museum is an incredibly interactive way to learn more and bridge those knowledge gaps.

Week 3 of this awesome adventure tour has you exploring down the rugged beauty of the west coast of New Zealand’s south island until we land in the adventure capitol of the world – Queenstown. It’s unlike anything you’ve seen or done in the previous two weeks. Black sands, huge surf, native forests, rock formations and creeping glaciers – incredible scenery with very few people. A spectacular and memorable week! You’ll meet the ‘nicest locals’ in New Zealand, and learn a new ‘kiwi’ dialect as we investigate the beauty of the South West. Finish off your week with an adrenalin fuelled stay in the picturesque township of Queenstown were out focus is on outright fun!

You start the week at Mount Cook, where you have the opportunity to explore the area around New Zealand’s highest mountain! Next, the journey continues to Tekapo, where it is an obvious opportunity to go for a fresh walk to the Mount John Observatory – the views are phenomenal! From there you go to the town of Christchurch and back north to Kaikoura, where you will most likely spot cute dolphins and large whales. You end up in Raglan, where the opportunity for surfing is tremendous! It is a mecca for surfers – both beginners and experienced. Next, the adventure ends in Auckland, where you can travel on, now that you’re halfway around the world anyways!
